Mepal 31/01/10
With Mepal being a sandy track the frost had very little effect over its condition, making it an ideal track for the first round of the Coventry Junior Motocross winter series. Despite the cold weather it was an enjoyable event to kick start the year in the best possible way.
First out were the Autos and Reece Martin made light work of the tricky conditions, making it look easy as he took all three race wins. Following him through in second for all three races was Tyrone Brown, who did a sterling job. Jack Ryan rode well for third in races one and two but unfortunately didnt make the final race.
Next were the Juniors and the battle was on between Jake Edey and Keenan Hird. Despite taking the lead on many occasions, Keenan was caught out by the sand and had to settle for second as Jake rode superbly for all three race wins. Ben Burridge had a fantastic first race in third, however Christopher Mills kicked it up a gear to take third in the final two races and overall.
Jack Seabourne quickly got his head round the track in the Small Wheel 85s to take the first race win with Keanan Armstrong fighting to keep up in second. Henry Siddiqui rode his best race of the day in race one to take a well deserved third. Daniel Lanfear picked up the pace for races two and three to take victory in both, leaving Jack and Keanan fighting over second. In race two Jack took this place, however Keanan finally got the better of him in race three. Overall it was Jack who took the win, with Keanan in second and Daniel third.
The Big Wheel 85s was a lot less decisive. Jack Gardner took the first race win, however was unable to continue the days racing. Second place for race one was taken by Matt Harrison who rode and excellent race ahead of Brad Freeman in third. Race two saw Jack Eldridge fly into the lead to take the race win ahead of McCauley Madden who stormed round in second, with Brad again rounding up the top three. Brad finally took the win in race three, which left him on joint points with Jack in second. On count back Jack took the overall win. Matt finished his day well in third place, putting him on joint points with McCauley. The overall third went to Matt.
Matt Burrows impressed in the Seniors race as he took all three race wins, fighting hard to hold off David Sweet in second place. Shaun Springer had a strong first race to take third, however Luke Houghton didnt hold back to take third in races two and three, granting him third overall.
Jack Taylor and Ricky Lethaby were in a race of their own at the front of the AMX group. Ricky took the upper hand in race one but Jack wouldnt let off as he took the win for races two and three. Scott Taylor polished off the top three for a brilliant first race. However he was pushed out of the top three by Scott Hambridge who took third for the final two races.
There seemed to be no answer to Brad OLeary who stormed ahead of the Open group for all three race wins. This left three riders to fight over second; Lee Whitney, Mitchell Bates and Scott Bates. In race one Lee scored his best result in second ahead of Mitchell in second. Race two and Mitchell pushed harder to take second place, this time with Scott in third. Scott continued to improve throughout the day and finally took second place in race three ahead of Lee who was back on track in third. Overall Scott took second position with Lee and Mitchell on joint points. With his third place in race three the final top three spot went to Lee.
All the best to Jack Weaver and Kieran Ryan, we hope to see you both back out on the track soon. A big thank you to the organizers for making this a successful and positive way to start the year, looking forward to seeing whats to come for the rest of the season.
